Born and raised in Washington DC, Amber Adams holds a Master of Fine Art from Howard University and completed her architectural undergraduate studies at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. The influence of architecture is clearly visible in the steel and wood pieces the artists builds in an investigation of formal concepts, mechanics of construction, and the manipulation of space. She is driven by a deep fascination with materiality and the process of physical manipulation specifically the work of the hand, man’s greatest tool). The work juxtaposes heavy industrial materials with pliable ethereal materials. The artist strives to activate and reveal space and materials through her quest to achieve emotive gestural forms.
